St. Lucian Iva Satney won her country her first Miss Carival crown.

ST. VINCENT: – The title of Miss Carival 2010, marketed by show producers as “the most prestigious beauty pageant in the Caribbean”, will reside in St. Lucia for the next year.

Iva Satney, the St. Lucian delegate at the show in Kingstown on Friday, defeated nine other beauties to take the crown to her country for the first time in the history of the 25-year-old pageant.

“It’s a good feeling being crowned Miss Carival 2010 because I am actually the first St. Lucian to win this title and I feel very proud that I represented my country excellently,” Satney told reporters after her crowning.

“I expected tough competition and I did have tough competition. I expected hard work from each of the girls and myself, and, at the end of the day, the best girl won,” said the student who turns 20 in September.

Satney did it for St. Lucia during her tenth pageant, four of which were regional. She is preparing to represent her country at the Miss Jaycee’s Caribbean Queen in Antigua and Barbuda later this year. (More photos)

Satney performs her talent piece, “Hallelujah”

After the announcement of the runners-up, Satney’s triumphed came as a surprise to the sizeable section of the crowd that favoured Miss Antigua and Barbuda, the dreadlocked Shelana George.

Satney’s talent included some breathtaking acrobatic moves in a dance that incorporated a 10-foot cross.

The piece, titled “Hallelujah”, was in praise, celebration and thanksgiving for the constant simplicities of “…love from above, and, on earth, a smile and hope for the rain”. (Go to the homepage to subscribe to I Witness-News)
