KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Gamal “Skinny Fabulous” Doyle is once again king of soca here.
He won the Soca Monarch competition Saturday night in a show in which last year’s champion Delroy “Fireman” Hooper opted out one day ahead of competition.
Skinny wooed patrons and judges although his performance was devoid of the high-tech tricks that has set him apart in the competition and won him three titles in a row before Fireman upset his beaver trick ambitions.
Second was Lornette “Fya Empress” Nedd who made a strong showing and whose popularity with the crowd was evidenced by their enthusiastic response to her performance.
Shaunelle Mc Kenzie wrapped up the top three positions in one of the first Soca Monarch competitions in which a woman was in winner’s row.
