The Lions Club St. Vincent South is for the third time hosting a team of medical specialists from the Avera McKennan Hospital in South Dakota, who will conduct free medical gastrointestinal clinics at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital for persons with gastrointestinal problems.

The visiting medical team includes of team leader Vincentian – gastroenterologist Dr. Stephen Nanton, gastrointestinal technician Debra White, Dr. Paul Benninga, Wendy Sue Welty and nurse anesthetists Joseph Douglas Welty, and registered nurse Tiffany Rae Facile

Through the efforts of the Lions Club St. Vincent South, Paul St. John and Nanton a modern and technological endoscopy service was established through which persons were able to seek treatment and attention for their upper and lower gastrointestinal tracts.

Nanton and his team were also instrumental in getting 18-year-old Vincentian Shanice Morris to travel to the Avera McKennan Hospital in South Dakota to be treated for Crohn’s disease.

The teams performed an endoscopy and visualized findings, which were consistent with Crohn’s disease last year when they visited as part of the mission.
