The SVG Rugby Club’s brand new grass roots programme, “Get Into Rugby”, is well underway.

Since the programme began on Monday Jan. 27, the club has already welcomed over 120 children who have enjoyed the training and coaching with visiting International Rugby Board coach, Jack Hanratty and members of the Union.

Grades 3 and 4 have been introduced to tag (non-contact) rugby where students are learning basic skills and knowledge of rugby, while having fun.

Members of the club and participating schools say they are excited about the Rugby Fun Day to be held this Saturday, Feb. 1.

“Saturday will be a perfect opportunity for parents or guardians, teachers, friends, Union members and anyone else interested in learning what rugby is to come along and watch. I have been overwhelmed with the positive support we have received for this programme and we look forward to working with many other schools in the future,” president of the Club, Sophie Goddard said.

The fun day will see all eight participating schools having fun together at the rugby workshop and friendly competition as well as The SVG National Senior Males, Senior Females and the Under 19 teams showcasing their talents.

The even begins is slated for Arnos Vale Playing Field from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to the public.
