Two senior officials from the Ministry of Health were expected to travel to the Unites States this week to evaluate US$10 million US$15 million in equipment that could be doanted to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves told the media that this country could receive the equipment as Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne “has pulled off another important mission.

“You know how important he has been on several medical missions,” Gonsalves said, explaining that a hospital chain in Houstan, Texas was closing one of its hospitals and has a lot of equipment “in good order”.

“From side tables through beds, right up to medical equipment like CT Scan,” Gonsalves said.

“The estimates of the gift which may come to us, the number is between 10 to 15 million US Dollars.

“The chief Medical Officer, Dr. [Simone] Keizer-Beache, and the technical person from the hospital, working with equipment, they are going up to Houston, I think tomorrow morning that they are going to identify the equipment to be shipped down,” Gonsalves told a press briefing on Monday.

  1. Jacqueline Wilson says:

Prayers do get answered . And if there’s one righteous, that land will be spared. Nuff said! Thank you, Houston, TX!

  2. Here We Go Again says:

The government announcements are getting more and more vague, an obvious deliberate effort no to give any information that can be independently verified.

The hospital in Texas doesn’t have a name ?

  3. Old-ass equipment otherwise destined for the local garbage dump. How can the PM say our economy is improving when we are such a nation of beggars?

  4. I was listening to Star FM last night. All of the news stories were about donations to SVG…grants being issued, gifts from other countries, etc, etc.
Shouldn’t SVG be trying to make its own way in the world?
We have so many resources in this country but we export so little.
Is the economy actually being managed or is the limit of that management the ability to go cap in hand to any nation that will talk to us?

  5. The 3 negative comments above are worth laughing at. Could imagine the self-hate being expressed by these people against the assistance from Texas. My God. But when the NDP brings in SCLC to help them win election and no-vote for the Constitutional Reform, not a word from these people.
