The principal, staff and student of the Brighton Methodist School (BMS) is celebrating a month of literacy activities through to March 6.

The theme for this year’s celebration is: “Celebrating Literacy through Academics and Creativity”. Students will be given numerous opportunities to show off their academic excellence and creativity in Literacy, Numeracy and Science.

Week 2: Numeracy week. Exploring Mathematical literacy — Integrating Mathematics in the curriculum- Maths Competition, games among others.

Week 3: Feb. 23 to 27: Science week – Science and literacy. A science fair where pupils are allowed to develop scientific projects and quiz competition in science.

Week 4- Writing week; March 2 -5

March 5: Hats off to literacy competition begins.

March 6: Literacy Extravaganza

Pupils will present their special pieces in a whole school activity.

Prizes would be awarded to the best Writers, Readers best hat etc.

There would be reader theatre, Story theatre, Authors chair, Storytelling, Drama, Dance, Song competition, Slogan competition among others.

The focus is to encourage integration in the School’s Curriculum to develop strategic learners in a child friendly environment.

“These will be internal assessment of classroom as well as external judging to arrive at the best classroom. Which classroom will get the judges nod. Which class beside Grade 6 is CPEA ready?”

The school is inviting parents and well-wishers to celebrate with and support them in the advancement of education in the Diamond Community, Brighton and other villages.
