Minibus driver Richard Bardoo was on Thursday charged with being the driver of minibus HN 113, did cause the death of Cunjah Browne, a 9-year-old student of Redemption Sharpes, by driving the said vehicle recklessly.

Bardoo, a 29-year-old chauffeur of Fountain, was charged at the Serious Offences Court, police say.

Police said Wednesday that preliminary investigations show that the minibus swerved away and hit a utility pole.

It is reported that Browne’s head hit a utility pole, causing him to sustain severe head and neck injuries.

He died inside the minibus at the scene of the incident.

Bardoo was granted bail in the sum of EC$25,000 and had to surrender all travel documents.

He is to report to the Calliaqua Police Station daily between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Bardoo’s next court date is set for Jan. 26, 2016.

Another student, Gabriel James, a 6-year-old student of Largo Height, was struck during the incident and is in hospital.

Police say there have been 10 road accidents this year, which resulted in the deaths of 18 persons.

  1. i do hope from this unfortunate predicament that “law enforcers” would put measures in place in aid to mitigate any further likely circumstances. moreover, may this be a wake up to all mini bus drivers to be more alert of those in and around the transport they are driving. not all incidents can be prevented but there are some that can be avoided with caution and wisdom being exercised frequently.
