Fancy will celebrate its annual National Heroes Day event this Thursday, March 14, at Heroes Square in the North Windward village.

The Fancy Unity Farmers’ Cooperative, in collaboration with the North Windward Tourism Association-Fancy chapter is hosting the event.

The theme of the event is “Preserving Our Culture For Future Generations” and seeks to highlight the life and legacy of Paramount Chief and SVG’s first national hero, Joseph Chatoyer.

Ten-time National Soca Monarch Fireman Hooper, Shaunelle McKenzie, former Ragga Soca Monarch Hance John, along with Luta, Blanca and many more are expected to perform at the event.

There will also be presentations from La Gracia Dance Company, Naked Roots, Rose Hall Drummers, Sandy Bay Secondary School Band, Voices of Victory and other artistes and groups.

The traditional dishes of the Garifuna people will be on sale, including madungo bakes, cassava bread, farine, sweet cassava bakes, fish broth and sweet potato pudding.

Organisers say that parking and police security will be made available from 9 a.m.  The cultural package is expected to begin at 2 p.m.

The event, which is in its 15th year, is free of charge.
