The Miss SVG pageant, which should have taken place this year in October, rather than the usual May-June period, has been cancelled.

Ashford Wood, chief executive officer of the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC), said that the decision results from “the far-reaching negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the citizens and business community of St. Vincent and the Grenadines over the past four months”

The show was originally set for Oct. 31.

“While the original date set for the pageant, October 31st, seems to be in the distance, necessary preparations had been put on hold out of an abundance of caution, adherence to the guidelines put forward by the authorities and being sensitive to the financial and psychological challenges stemming from the many uncertainties surrounding the pandemic,” Wood said.

“In light of the above, we now look forward to supporting the Beauty Shows Committee in preparing for a better 2021 production and a safe and enjoyable experience for all,” he further stated.

The effects of the carona on the business sector contributed to the cancellation of the Miss SVG show. Despite all this government giving away grants to people to create business that cannot be sustained. The very reason why almost 400 business have closed their doors is because of covid. The covid pandemic is an enemy of the business sector and it seems that Ralph does not get that reality in his head.
