Police release names, charges in firearms disappearance case

Police, on Monday disclosed the names of the four men charged in connection with the disappearance of firearms and ammunition from the Georgetown Police Station.

The four charged are Zackrie Latham, 25, former police constable of New Grounds; Myron Samuel, 28, a self-employed, former national footballer, of Layou; Avi King, 26, a labourer, of Diamonds; and Meshach Dublin, aka 26, “Shane” and “3D”, an unemployed of Diamonds resident.

Latham is charged with the following offences:

  1. Official Corruption
  2. Burglary
  3. Sale of Firearms without a dealer’s licence under the Firearms Act
  4. Sale of ammunitions without a dealer’s licence under the Firearms Act.
  5. Possession of a firearm without a licence under the Firearms Act.
  6. Possession of ammunitions without a licence under the Firearms Act.
  7. Possession of a prohibited weapon without authorization of the minister.
  8. Possession of criminal property.

Myron is charged with the following offences:

  1. Possession of a firearm without a licence under the Firearms Act
  2. Possession of ammunitions without a licence under Firearms Act
  3. Handling Stolen Goods

King is charged with the following offences:

  3. Possession of Firearms without a licence under the Firearms Act
  4. Possession of a prohibited weapon without the authorization of the minister.
  5. Sale of ammunitions without a dealer’s licence under the Firearms Act
  6. Sale of firearms without a dealer’s licence under the Firearms Act.
  7. Burglary with Intent

Dublin is charged with the following offences:

  1. Possession of criminal property.
  2. Possession of firearms without a licence under the Firearms Act.
  3. Possession of ammunitions without a licence under the Firearm Act.
  4. Possession of a prohibited weapon without the authorization of the minister.
  5. Sale of ammunitions without a dealer’s licence under the Firearms Act.
  6. Sale of firearms without a dealer’s licence under the Firearms Act.

The men are scheduled appearance before the Serious Offences Court today, Monday, to answer to the charges.

The Police Public Relations and Complaint Department, in a statement Monday morning, noted that the charges come 15 days after Commissioner of Police, Colin John directed that an investigation be launched into the disappearance of a quantity of firearms and ammunitions from the armoury at the Georgetown Police Station.

The Major Crimes Unit of Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force conducted the investigations.

    Now if the recent shooting at Diamonds had been resolves as expeditious it would be a plus for the royal SVG cops. From the looks of it SVG youth are going astray. No prospects, no wok, no future, wha yo ekspek?

    The reason why there is more crime n corruption is because there’s nothing for the youth/young people to do. The government of the day has received vast amounts of money following the volcano on 9th April. With this he should have mapped out programmes for a clear up, repairing homes n roads etc. This would put people to work and get idle hand engaged in something better than crime. Because this is not being people are feeling bored, unmotivated n uninspired. The streets n crime becomes their friend.

    Come on Mr Prime Minister put the future of your youth n young people first. They need work, they need motivation then need encouragement and they need to be doing something.
