Eight Girl Guides from the Girl Guides Association of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) have attained the Chief Commissioner’s Award for their exemplary commitment to God, country, and community service.
The Chief Commissioner’s Award is the highest award in Girl Guiding and is reserved for Girl Guides who not only strive to achieve these ideals but complementarily, the awardees attained a wide cross-section of badges, have local, regional, and international guiding and leadership exposure and strive to continually observe the ideals of guiding in their daily lives.
Chief Commissioner of the Girl Guides Association of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Laura Browne presented this year’s Chief Commissioner’s awards to Azaria Commissiong, Adia Daniel, Thalia DeShong, Myracle Doyle, Jonique Haynes, Ciara Jeffers, Anna Warrican, and Skye Williams.
To date, all awardees continue to further hone their leadership skills as Ranger Guides and/or young leaders in SVG.
Browne said the mission of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts is “To enable girls and young women to develop their fullest potential as responsible citizens of the world”. She, therefore, admonished the awardees to daily try to leave this world better than they found it.
At the ceremony, Browne thanked all the volunteers of the local association who invest their time and talents voluntarily to bring out the best in this nation’s girls and young women.
She reassured that the local movement of over 2,000 girls and young women will continually advance leadership development, education and advocacy programmes and campaigns, which all contribute towards the holistic development of hundreds of girls and young women across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and lead to a better future for all.
Congratulations to these eight Girl Guides of achieving this highest award. As a Vincentian living abroad, I always proud of my country and all those who are teaching our young people to be good citizens of St.Vincent &the Grenadines and the world. May God continue to bless all of you as you continue on your journey.
