Amidst the push by some components of carnival for an increase in prize monies, mas bands say that the biggest prize should go to the winner of the Band of the Year competition.
“I want to use this opportunity to make one final appeal to the Carnival Development Corporation to understand that Mardi Gras is the biggest event of the Vincymas product and as such, it must be reflected in the prize monies,” Hugh Ragguette, president of Carnival Bands Inc. (CBI) told a recent press conference.
“The biggest competition in Carnival celebrations is the Band of the Year. No soca monarch, no soca monarch could override Band of the Year,” Ragguette said.
He said the CBI was making “a final appeal” to the Carnival Development Corporation “to honour our agreement of 2006 and have the price for Band of the Year restored as the premiere price in Vincy Mas”
The carnival mas bands might have the most expense but I doubt they bring in half the amount that the soca monarch show makes. It goes both ways sir.
