Narcotics officers in St. Vincent and the Grenadines have launched an investigation after intercepting 398 pounds of cannabis in North Windward on Friday.

iWitness News was reliably informed that the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Coast Guard Service intercepted two boats off the coast of Rock Gutter, an uninhabited area between Owia and Fancy, on the northeastern tip of St. Vincent. 

Officers at the Owia Police Station also took part in the operation, which saw two boats, one foreign and one local being intercepted.

Reports are that one of the boats was en route to Barbados with the drug when it developed engine problems and began drifting.

Two men, said to be residents of Clare Valley, were also apprehended and taken into police custody.

On Jan., 22, 2022, Owia, another North Windward community, came into the national spotlight after police found 60 kilograms of Cocaine at Owia Clinic.

Owia resident, Lucresha Nanton, 35, a staff nurse, was charged in connection with the drug and was sentenced to two years and 10 months in prison.
