Homicide Investigation

A shooting in lower Edinboro around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday has left one man dead, another injured and the homicide count in St. Vincent and the Grenadines this year at 53.

Reports are that gunfire rang out in the area of Nine Steps, leaving Dwayne Banfield, 34, and Allan Lewis, 29, with multiple gunshot injuries.

Both men were transported to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH), where Banfield died some hours later.

Lewis is said to be in a stable condition, having suffered a gunshot injury to each of his legs.

Thursday’s killing was the second shooting in the Edinboro area in about three weeks and also ended a three-week spell in which there have been no killings in the country.

On Dec. 2, Olando Guy, 36, one of two men who were shot in Edinboro during an early morning attack, died while undergoing surgery at MCMH.

Dee-jay Howard, 29, also of Edinboro, was shot and injured, reportedly by the same assailant.

Detectives have been kept busy this year investigating killings and injuries as a result of gunshots.

Police have listed 48 of the 53 homicides this year as murder, as compared to 42 last year.

Among those that have not been classified as murders are the shooting deaths of civilians by on-duty police officers and a case in which a female off-duty police officer shot and killed an alleged intruder at her home.

The cases that police have also not classified as murder the death of a six-month baby whose body was found on the pavement on the ground floor of the three-story apartment building where his family lived on the first floor in Belair.

iWitness News understands that police have theorised that the baby died after being thrown from the building by a female adult relative who has a history of mental illness.

  1. If a family member regardless of mental health issues throws a baby from an upper flow building and that baby dies 😢😢isn’t that classed as murder ?? The woman kill the child 😞😞😞😞

  2. You live by the sword you die by the sword gunslinger. One should not be hoodwinked by politicians and representatives from the area to think it will be better when the get into power. The security situation will remain the same. Neither Leacock nor Cummings is able to address the security problems in their constituencies.
