A Vincentian beekeeper who was featured on iWitness News in 2017 using homemade protective gear as he just started out on his beekeeping journey has won a top prize in St. Lucia.

Cuthbert Lee has won the first prize in the “Chunk Honey Class” at the 3rd Annual Hewanorra National Honey show in St. Lucia.

“In this class, a chunk of honeycomb was placed in a jar of honey,” the Ministry of Agriculture in Kingstown said in a Facebook post.

Lee said that he was very elated after learning that he won first prize.

Beverly Reddock, another Vincentian, placed second in the Honey Cake Class.

Beekeepers entering this class had to follow a recommended recipe with honey as one of the main ingredients.

The other Vincentian beekeepers, Harvey Farrell, Sabrina Murphy-Bascombe and Criscoor Sprott took part in the show held earlier this month.

The event has now extended its reach to embrace the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States and this year also saw participation from Grenada, Montserrat, Dominica, St. Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda and the British Virgin Islands.

Please see below a 2017 video we recorded when Mr. Lee was just starting out as a beekeeper.
