Roy Defreitas won the “BMC Masters” squash tournament held at the National Squash Centre, March 19-22.
Defreitas battled against Paul Cyrus in the deciding match, with each game fiercely contested, point for point.
Defreitas maintained control throughout the match, securing a hard-fought victory with scores of 11-9, 11-9, 7-11, 11-9.
“I waited 365 days for this!” said Defreitaas, who lost to Cyrus in 2023, triggerin laughter among the large gathering who came to witness this showdown.
Despite falling short in the end, Cyrus’ performance was nothing short of commendable, earning him second place in the tournament.
Nicholas Boyea, displaying tremendous improvement, secured third place.
Boyea’s journey to the podium included impressive victories over Keith Boyea 11-9, 11-9, 13-11; Dominic Ross 11-8, 10-12, 11-3 and Loron Thomas 11-4, 8-11, 11-9, 11-3.
Keith Boyea came prepared to capture the fourth position over Dominic “Demus” Ross. However, Ross failed to show up on time for the match resulting in a walkover victory for Boyea.
The tournament is for athletes aged over 40 years.
Next up in on the squash calendar of events is the much-anticipated Tus-T Water Inc Junior National Squash Championships April 4-6.
