A mechanic died at the scene in Rose Hall when the vehicle he was driving overturned in the North Leeward community about 1 a.m. Wednesday.

The dead man has been identified as Kellon Stapleton aka Screech.

Stapleton’s passenger, a male, was also injured in the incident, which occurred in the Belmont area of the community.

The passenger was taken to hospital, but iWitness News was unclear about his status at the time of publication.

Stapleton is the second driver to die after crashing in North Leeward this year.

On Jan. 26, Maurice Murphy, 57, of Redemption Sharpes became the first road fatality in St. Vincent and the Grenadines this year, when he died in a car crash in Troumaca.

Murphy was driving in the North Leeward community around 11:40 a.m. when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a retaining wall.

Murphy sustained serious injuries and a medical practitioner pronounced him dead at the scene, police said at the time.

  1. This is very very sad 😥😥. My deepest condolences to his beautiful girlfriend, two beautiful children and kindhearted mother. He was such a hardworking mechanic!
    I will like to remind all drivers that it’s ALWAYS best to avoid driving when you are feeling sleepy or when you start feeling sleepy while driving. This is the second time a driver went over the bank in that area around the same time. Fortunately that driver survived.
    Where possible, employers who have employees finishing work late at night who may have to take a long drive home afterward, may wish to reconsider the “end work” time of such employees. How about allowing them to finish work few hours earlier? The lives of your employees are far more important than the work to be done.
