The opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) says it will meet with sports bodies and experts in sports as it seeks to develop its “National Athlete Programme”.
Earlier this month, the party announced that it would create a programme to support national athletes.
Member of Parliament for East Kingstown, Dwight “Fitz” Bramble who shadows sports for the NDP said the feedback about the programme has been “overwhelmingly positive”.
“… we have so many people who have put forward ideas to develop this programme and the wider sports policy to support young athletes, provide opportunities and ultimately help sports become a major social and economic engine for our country.”
Bramble said that the meetings with sports bodies and experts are geared at helping the party to ensure that the policy will be targeted, effective and efficient.
“While we have set the broad parameters, our aim now is to work with people on the ground to ensure we deliver something that works,” Bramble said.
“Over the coming weeks, we will be talking with as many persons as possible whose ideas and suggestions will feed into our final policy. Anyone who wants to offer support can do so.”
The NDP said it is committed to the development of sports in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

NDP needs to do some serious self searching..the 2025 elections are there’s to win,but it’s gonna be that much more difficult. If they do win the next elections, it’ll be more a decision made by the electorate rather than any meaningful change in the strategy of the NDP. The average age of the NDP parliamentarians and those desiring to represent NDP in the next general elections is 65. Some may argue that these are all experienced and seasoned politicians and these opposition politicians are the only ones capable of winning a general a general election in Vincy.
This in turn, has made those desiring to form government in SVG develop a sense of entitlement. This is a really poor strategy and is guaranteed to continue failing. The NDP members of parliament for the love of country need to ask themselves if it will be in the best interest of the party if they groom Vincentians who are younger, intelligent and full of potential to play a bigger role in preparation for next year’s general elections. Some of these elected opposition members have to accept that they’re not the catalyst for the change in government that’s needed in SVG.
The NDP after 23 years has become comfortable being in opposition and will resist any challenge to change the present approach/ strategy of the party. However, this approach of the NDP has to be completely overhauled and Vincentians deserve and should expect better from the NDP. Being in opposition for 23 yrs isn’t normal and a change in the internal workings of the party is sorely needed.
