The St. Vincent Motorsport Association has announced that its inaugural drag racing competition will take place on April 27 and 28 at the Arnos Vale tarmac.

This event will feature a point-based competition, showcasing the talents from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, St. Lucia, Grenada, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Over 40 cars from the region will go head-to-head against the Vincentian team.

“Motorsport enthusiasts can expect two days of high-octane excitement as drivers race to the finish line in pursuit of victory and prizes,” organisers said in a press release.

“The competition not only highlights the skill and precision of our local drivers but also underscores the growing significance of motorsport as a niche market within sports tourism.”

The association said that decent events have demonstrated “the immense popularity of motorsport in the region, with a recent competition in Grenada attracting over 13,000 spectators.

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Motorsport Association said it aims to replicate this success by hosting a highly competitive event that will attract regional visitors and garner national attention.

“We are excited to bring back the thrill of drag racing to St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” said Ato Rowe, president of the St. Vincent Motorsport Association.

“This event represents a significant milestone for our association and for motorsport enthusiasts across the region. We look forward to showcasing the talent of our local drivers and providing an unforgettable experience for spectators.”
