Police have arrested and charged an Ottley Hall businessman who allegedly had in his possession an unlicensed firearm and ammunition as well as various currencies amounting to EC$14,787.70.

The businessman, Carl Hinds, pleaded not guilty to charges that on April 4, at Ottley Hall, he had in his possession one .22 pistol and 8 rounds of .22 ammunition without a licence issued under the Firearms Act.

He pleaded similarly to charges relating to 11.4 grams of cocaine.

Prosecutors are also asking the court to confiscate currencies, including EC dollars, US dollars, euros, and pounds sterling, amounting to EC$14,787.70.

Hinds pleaded not guilty to the charges when he was arraigned at the Mesopotamia Magistrate’s Court.

He was granted EC$15,000 bail with one surety and ordered to report to the Central Police Station on Mondays and Fridays between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

His trial is slated for April 22, at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court.
