Money makes the world go around. This is the reason why we work every day and more than half of our lives to provide ourselves with our basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter. Money can be defined as anything you use to trade for goods and services and to store value. It can be any item (physical or virtual) as long as people agree that the item has value. Every human being needs money. However, being obsessed with money can be very problematic.

The obsession with money can make people do all manner of evil things to each other. For example, in some relationships and marriages, we would have good partners who work hard and honestly and give us everything we need, but because of greed, we would cheat on these good people for money.

In society, some people are in high-paying jobs and are getting themselves involved in the drug trade, which is contributing to the high crime rates. The more they get, the more they want. Some of these people would also go to the extreme to steal from their workplace. Burglars would go from house to house, breaking into people’s houses, depriving them of what they have worked hard for. They would also steal from the hard-working farmers, stealing their crops and animals and depriving them of their livelihood.

Nations are fighting against each other for oil money. The BBC reported on Dec. 14, 2015, that the Islamic State group was extending its territory inside Libya, aiming to gain access to the country’s oil wells. There are also disputes between Guyana and Venezuela over the Essequibo region, which some believe are fuelled by deposits of oil in the region.

Politicians across the globe have also been found guilty of putting their hands in the cookie jar. The BBC quoted analysts as saying that Japan is going through a once-in-a-generation political crisis as the government fights to clean up its image in the face of a corruption scandal. The article further states that media reports have emerged accusing LDP politicians of pocketing excess funds received at fundraisers. . The Bible states in Timothy 6:10 that the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
