The New York-based Vincentian calypso tent Dynamite has evolved beyond calypso and is now the Dynamite Cultural Organization
Marvo O’Brien Morgan, speaking on behalf of Dynamites, in Kingstown, said the tent has been making an impact.
“They are now called the Dynamites Cultural Organization. And they are doing a lot in the diaspora, not just in calypso; they have been doing a lot of social work,” she said.
O’Brien Morgan told a Calypsonians Association press conference that Dynamite had their launch in New York on May 11.
“And it was very successful because they had it in the form of fundraising events.”
O’Brien Morgan said John Dougan, a fellow member of On Tour Calypso Tent, will sing with Dynamites this year because he is in New York.
Dynamites will face the judges in the preliminaries on June 8.
They have a 10-member cast comprised of Ulric Hamlet, John Dugan, Jose Juan, Delahanty Isles, Rejector, Oscar James, Dennis Bowman, Posono, De Man Age, and Hilton Duncan.
“So, we want to wish them all the best on their tent launch, because they will be first being judged. And I want to take the opportunity as well to extend to the other tents all the best, because … we want to keep the crown here, but Dynamites saying it may come home to them too,” O’Brien Morgan said.
