‘Too Cool’ in custody over ‘shooting incident’

Radio personality and host of Hot 97’s “AM Mayhem” show, Too Cool Kris was taken into custody on Tuesday morning in connection with an allegation that he shot a man in Kingstown in early July.

iWitness News understands that police officers went to the radio studio on Higginson Street, Kingstown and took the announcer, whose real name is Christopher Jones, into custody.

Too Cool was taken into custody during his show, whose other hosts, Luke Boyea and Jagga Ranks, continued the programme afterwards.

Too Cool, who is said to have a permit to carry a firearm, is alleged to have shot a man who reportedly pelted him with bottles in Kingstown.

A video circulated via social media shortly after the alleged shooting shows a man resembling and sounding like Jones holding what appeared to be a firearm in his left hand across the street from Laynes Hardware on Bay Street, Kingstown.

“How you look at me, boy?” the man resembling Jones said to a man who was sitting on the ground.

“Me ain’t do you nothing,” the man on the ground responded.

“Stay there. Let the police come,” the man holding the object said, and a police officer appeared carrying what appeared to be a firearm in his hand.

The police officer asked what had happened and the man who looked like Jones said, “This man blast three bottle behind me. He nearly kill me up the road just now. Look he. Ask he. About 10 million people see,” the man said, pointing, apparently at someone off camera.

The man who had been on the ground attempted to stand and made a few wobbly steps before collapsing back onto the ground as other people told him to stay down.

A police officer took the object resembling a firearm from the hand of the man resembling Too Cool and they later left together, in the direction of Lower Bay Street.

Too Cool was injured some years ago when a man attacked him at Heritage Square, striking him in the head with a glass bottle.
