Taiwan has donated over 100 cameras, including license plate recognition cameras and pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras to the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) as part of Phase 2 of the CCTV project.

The cameras and other information communication technology (ICT) equipment arrived in the country last month to help strengthen the country’s public security, the embassy said in a press release.

“These different types of cameras will assist police in ensuring the safety of citizens around the clock and automatically recognise suspect vehicle license plates, thus reducing the manpower and time needed for police searches,” a press release said.

PTZ cameras can be controlled remotely by officers from the operation centre, allowing for comprehensive monitoring of various security blind spots.

Ray Chih-chieh Wen, the project manager from the Taiwan Mission in SVG stated that these cameras will be installed this month.

In addition to the camera equipment, the container also includes materials for upgrading and expanding several Government ICT spaces such as enhancing the Operation Centre at the Questelles Police Station and renovating the Information Technology Service Division server room.

Taiwan Ambassador to SVG, Fiona Huei-Chun Fan and Assistant Commissioner of Police Leonard Fergus visited the E-Bus and Security Operation Centre on Friday and exchanged views on a range of issues, including ICT projects and areas of future cooperation.

Fan said that improving the ICT network is key to building a comprehensive transportation infrastructure and strengthening public security, adding that there will be a safer environment by deploying a wider public ICT network.

Over the past few years, Taiwan and SVG have highlighted the importance of ICT and have started bolstering public security and CCTV systems in SVG, the release said.

  1. Taiwan is 100% behind ULP because of our UN vote against China taking over the place, but nothing in Vincentian society is going to change for the country, nothing.
