Sex Crimes

The leadership of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force has turned over to the Sexual Offences Unit for investigation a report that a senior police officer indecently assaulted two junior officers under his command.

iWitness News was reliably informed that two female constables have accused the officer, who has over two decades of service, of assaulting them by touching them inappropriately.

Reports are that a female constable with less than five years of service approached a member of the top brass of the police force and complained about the alleged assault.

After this initial report, another constable who had at one stage been under the command of the accused officer, came forward with a similar report.

The senior police officer who received the report that the officer had allegedly assaulted the junior ranks is said to have ordered a prompt inquiry into the matter.

However, as the inquiry progressed, the police force is said to have decided to hand over the investigation to the Sexual Offences Unit, meaning that criminal charges could be brought against the officer.

This issued of alleged assault is pervasive among the RSPF. Let’s deal with the issue before us in which an officer has been accused of indecent assault. A woman body his her property and Noone has the right to violate it. The issue of alleged assault has been going on for too long now and should be investigated and if found guild. The victim should face the full ars of the law.

Readers of Iwitness News can recall in one of its News articles, that it was alleged that Junior Police Constable, Stroyson Soleyn was accused of raping. I would believe that the crime is considered to be subjudice or still before the court. There are far too many instances of alleged police brutality , alleged rape and police misconduct. What is the solution?

  2. Senior cop, ask dem why dem na bin investigate the man when your own colleague had reported that she was given reassuring kiss while on duty ? Tell dem the fish rots from the head down and example is the greatest teacher.

  3. The way the police RSPF is structured in St Vincent where police misconduct is investigated by police, it makes a mockery of the system. It is akin to make the fox the guardian of the hen house. The fox can never be a natural guardian of the chickens given its propensity to be an unfair broker.

Given the lopsided structured of the Police Investigation Bureau, citizen’s are reluctant to report incidents of crimes by the men in uniform who are charged with protection of the citizens of the state. A better structure entails a civilian head to preside over the police reporting bureau to ensure neutrality in matters pertaining to police misconduct. Then and only then would the men in uniform be held accountable for their transgressions.
