Tuesday marks the peak of the hurricane season.

The peak of the hurricane season comes in September, which has the highest average maximum temperature in St. Vincent and the Grenadines over the last 30 years — 31.3°C.

“Similar warm conditions were experienced around this time last year,” Meteorological Forecaster Gregory Cato of the SVG Met Service said in a 72-hour outlook on Sunday.

“The public is strongly advised to take the necessary precautionary measures to alleviate warm conditions,” Cato said.

The outlook said additional moisture is being drawn to St. Vincent and the Grenadines as the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) migrates northwards.

The ITCZ appears as a band of clouds consisting of showers and occasional thunderstorms that encircles the globe near the equator.

In addition, light wind speeds will continue through Tuesday, therefore, warm conditions will persist along with the increasing possibility for localised afternoon showers.

“A mixture of cloudy skies, sunny and warm conditions with interruptions of moderate pockets of showers and isolated thunderstorms can be expected within the next three days,” the forecaster said.

Light and gentle (less than 20km/h) east-south easterly trades will cross the islands during this forecast period.

“Sea conditions are smooth to slight on eastern coasts ranging from 0.5m (1.64ft) to 1.0m (3.2ft) and moderate on eastern coasts peaking near 1.5m (4.92ft).

No significant Saharan dust haze concentrations are expected during this forecast period.

On Sunday, the mercury rose to 33.1 °C and did not fall below 25.6 °C

Today (Monday) is forecast to be mostly cloudy with light to moderate showers and thunderstorms

Residents and motorists in areas prone to flooding and landslides or near rivers and streams should exercise caution, forecasters said.
