A police officer was listed as “critically injured” while students and other passengers were receiving medical attention after three vans crashed at Stoney Ground on Wednesday.

A father told iWitness News at the scene that doctors had ordered that his daughter undergo a CT scan.

Police told iWitness News that they had seen reports in the media of fatalities as a result of the accident but they had not been informed of any deaths.

The accident outside Jaycees Building forced the diversion of traffic through Block 2000, resulting in significant delays during rush hour.

The three vans involved ply the Kingstown-Vermont route. Two of them — H3647 and HY403 — were facing the direction of the city, while the third, H4303, was facing north.

  1. This situation has reached its pinicle. The authorities basically do nothing about this situation. The traffic dept is not given enough resources to deal with this situation. Why aren’t they laws banning amplified music in public transport? Are they aware of the damage that children weeks old are subjected to? All we do is play on people’s emotions about alcohol at funerals. The mist dispicible behaviour is what goes on in parliament. Why are there no laws to curb this? Words are powerful we have become an ungovernable state.

  2. This reckless driving by van drivers isn’t going to stop. Why can the government and police put speed bumps on the roads? Would make a difference and save lives.
