The conductor of a minivan travelling south from Owia died when the vehicle went over an embankment along the coastline today (Friday).
Details are still emerging but iWitness News was reliably informed that the accident took place at Boat Bay, an area between Owia and Sandy Bay.
Opposition Senator Shevern John, an Owia resident, told iWitness News around 6:15 a.m. that she had just arrived on the scene.
“The report is that there is one death. I am not sure how many people were in the van but it was coming down from Owia,” the lawmaker told iWitness News.
She said that police were at the scene, and she had been told that the injured had already been taken for medical attention.
“It is far down near the beach. The van came from the road and plunged close to the sea. From what I am seeing, it is a real height,” the senator told iWitness News.
