Questions are being asked even as police are investigating the origin of scores of St. Vincent and the Grenadines birth certificates found in South River near Heritage Square in Kingstown on Wednesday.
iWitness News was reliably informed that the Registry has told police that there was no burglary at its offices nor did it dispose of any birth certificates, further deepening the mystery.
What’s more, the birth certificates were completed, meaning that they contained the names and information of people and, therefore, could be used as source documents for the application of SVG passports and voter’s cards.
iWitness News first learnt of the situation when a member of the public contacted us on Wednesday alerting us to the presence of the documents there.
However, rain had begun to fall around the same time, increasing the flow of water in the river and washing some of the documents out to sea.
iWitness News was further reliably informed that police who also responded to a report were only able to retrieve some of the documents because of the impact of the rain.
However, we were able to obtain a photo that appears to show a significant number of birth certificates in a binder in the river before the rains began to fall.
The government has not commented publicly on the situation.
It will be good to check the names. It might just be dead people who voted last election.
This is an extraordinary occurrence. Absolutely extraordinary. There must be an explanation that satisfies the minds of us citizens.

What kind of institutional slackness is this?
Good points!
