Investor Ian Wace, left and Canouan resident, activist Terry Bynoe.

Activist Terry Bynoe was released from police custody around 10 p.m. Friday without charge after an altercation 11 hours earlier in Canouan with Ian Wace, a British financier, who has been paying for much of the repairs there after the impact of Hurricane Beryl on July 1, 2024.

iWitness News was reliably informed that the incident occurred in Retreat, Canouan around 11 a.m. after Wace allegedly “fogged” Bynoe’s wife with an air blower he was using to clean the street.

A witness told iWitness News that Bynoe’s wife was walking in the direction of the bank as Wace was using the air blower.

Bynoe’s wife and another man were standing at the side of the road, apparently waiting for Wace to see them and stop using the machine so that they could pass.

“Mr. Wace was blowing on the left side and then he turned to the right side of the road. So Bynoe’s wife started to walk up slowly on the left side. However, when she reached up to Mr. Wace, he turned around the air blower and started to blow the dust on her. And he continued to blow the dust.”

The source told iWitness News that Bynoe’s wife asked Wace if he did not have any manners.

Wace reportedly responded, “I am cleaning your country.”

The source said that Bynoe’s wife told Wace that where she lives is clean.

Wace reportedly then told Bynoe’s wife not to attend a party he was having later that night for residents of the island.

The source told iWitness News that Wace and Bynoe’s wife exchanged expletives, and he “raised the air blower like how they used to fog people during COVID and blow it on her”.

Bynoe’s wife then continued on her journey after telling Wace he would see a different side of her if he assaulted her with the air blower when she returned.

Meanwhile, iWitness News was reliably informed that Bynoe confronted Wace after learning about the incident between his wife and the investor.

Wace is said to have sworn at Bynoe and their exchange of words escalated to the point where both men began to “chuck” (shove) each other.

Bynoe later went into a shop and iWitness News understands that a “crowd” of men from both Canouan and St. Vincent went there with bottles in their hands, threatening to kill him, asking how he could have done that to Wace.

“The police had to escort Bynoe and his wife out of the shop and carry them by the station,” another witness told iWitness News.

iWitness News was reliably informed that the police told Bynoe that he was under arrest and they took away his phone and his licensed firearm.

There were contradicting reports about Bynoe drawing his licensed firearm when the crowd came to the shop.

Police are said to have taken the weapon away from him while he was in custody but returned it to him on his release.

  1. Dr Doris Frederick says:

What ? This is quite interesting? So why wasn’t Wace arrested too?
The National Liberation Movement takes note.

  2. Now you see the small minded Blackman mentality. Imagine an incident between a Blackman & white man, black man goes to defend his wife over the incident.
After an exchange of words both parties then go on there separate ways, yet somehow word get put out re said incident. Now we have a group of black-men from main & small island, descending on a shop with bottles in hand to allegedly threatening to kill the black man over the white man? You see how black people tap dance to master tune.
    KMDT.

  3. This is an interesting incident as Mrs. Bynoe was allegedly assaulted by Mr. Wace using a leaf-blower, yet Mr. Wace was not arrested. Furthermore according to the article “Bynoe later went into a shop and iWitness News understands that a “crowd” of men from both Canouan and St. Vincent went there with bottles in their hands, threatening to kill him, asking how he could have done that to Wace.”, a threat was made to both Mr. and Mrs. Bynoe yet no one from the shop was arrested. However, Mr. Bynoe was held.

Is this the application of “You cannot damage the goose that lays the gold egg”?

  4. All I see here is colour privilege, wipe the matter out of uno eyes 👀. Don’t care who you think you are don’t treat people like that.
