A Colombian man who police allegedly met with a cutlass walking along a street in rural St. Vincent has been sent for a psychiatric evaluation.

Police said that they arrested the non-national, Mateo Florez, a 41-year-old retiree on April 16, and charged him with possession of an offensive weapon.

They have alleged that Florez had a cutlass without a lawful excuse with intent to commit an offence while walking along the Rose Bank Public Road on Wednesday.

He appeared before the Layou Magistrate’s Court on Thursday and was ordered to be admitted to the

Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre for two weeks’ evaluation.

Am I correct in thinking that there is no qualified psychiatrist a the Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre? I am wondering who, exactly is expected to conduct an evaluation and prepare a report in the absence of a qualified professional.
