Workers at the Ministry of Education were on Tuesday refusing to enter their main building, saying it was infested by mould.

On Tuesday, a Ministry of Education employee told iWitness News that the workers were staging a sit-out

“The building has been infected with mould. Various persons have gotten ill and nothing has been done,” the workers said.

The Public Service Union had said it had instructed the workers at the main administrative building  not to occupy the building.

“This decision was taken after the Union met with the workers to address health-related issues purportedly caused by mould infestation and other hazards in the building which they occupy. The building is not conducive for work,” the union said in a press statement on Thursday, ahead of the Easter weekend.

“This decision will stand until the Union is assured of the safety of our members. The SVGPSU hope to meet with the Permanent Secretary of the respective ministry to address this grave situation,” the union said.
