A police officer with 19 years of service in the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force who allowed his brother to drive his minibus without a licence, has to pay EC$2,000 in fines by June 2 or spend two months in prison.
The officer, Alt Campbell, 37, and his 23-year-old brother, Tyler Patrick, appeared before Magistrate Kaywana Jacobs at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday and pleaded guilty to various traffic offences.
Patrick pleaded guilty to charges that on May 2, at Georgetown Public Road, he drove motor vehicle H5353 without the use of a driver’s permit, and he did use the said vehicle H5353 without there being in forced a policy of insurance in respect of third-party risk.
Patrick committed the offences again on May 6.
Campbell was charged that on May 6, being the owner of H5353, he did allow Patrick to use the said vehicle without a driving permit and without there being in force a policy of insurance in respect of third-party risk.
Acting Sergeant of Police Corlene Samuel told the court that on May 2, Police Constable 404 May was on traffic duty along the Georgetown Public Road near Triple R Square when he signalled H5353 to stop.
Patrick, the driver, complied.
May asked for his driver’s permit and Patrick said, “Officer, it dey home”.
Samuel said May gave Patrick the opportunity to retrieve the license and return it to him but he never did.
Samuel said that on May 6, about 4 p.m., Constable May was again on traffic duty along the Georgetown Public Road when he saw the said vehicle travelling in the direction of Langley Park and he signalled it to stop.
Again, Patrick was driving and May asked him for his driver’s license.
Patrick told May, “Officer, it dey home.”
On the charge of driving without the use of a driver’s permit, the magistrate fined Patrick EC$300 to be paid by May 26.
On the insurance charge, he is to pay EC$300 by June 2.
For May 6 offences, Patrick was fined EC$500 to be paid by June 13.
Each of the sentences carries one month imprisonment if he defaults.
The magistrate also barred Patrick from obtaining a driver’s license for five months.

I am not at all surprised, the RSPF thinks the above the law. There are too many incidents involving police and the law. I witnessvnews carried many such incidents, Junior Constable Royson Soleyn was arrested in an alleged rape case the public has not yet given close of the incident.
