Laziness, eh?

It was once said not to argue with fools because they will drag you to their level and beat you with experience.

Now, let us get into this laziness talk because all we have heard is that the NDP is lazy. However, sorry to break it to you, but there is a group of people who are trying to drag them to their level and currently have them beat with experience.

The lazy label has been tossed around by ULP bigwigs and echoed by their loyal cheerleaders and NDP critics alike. However, we really need to understand what laziness actually is and what it looks like.

Laziness is sitting pretty with all the tools, all the power, and all the resources, and still choosing to do the bare minimum. Sounds familiar?

Now ask yourself: has the NDP really been unwilling to work? They have taken multiple electoral beatings, dusted themselves off, and kept showing up. This shows grit, tenacity, and a willingness to keep showing up regardless of how difficult losses can be. 

Of course, some candidates can be more visible, but let us not pretend that the ULP ministers who are armed with government machinery and a bottomless pit of taxpayer resources are out here sweating for Vincentians with their hard work. 

So who is really lazy? The ones hustling with scraps, or the ones feasting at the table while the rest of us look on with our mouths dry, wondering when we might get a little something too?

True laziness is having the whole buffet and still serving us stale bread. Worse yet, they treat us like fools, rolling out shiny promises and vote-baiting gimmicks every five years, expecting us to fall in line like hypnotised sheep.

And guess what? We do. We demand miracles from the opposition and accept mediocrity from the ones in power. It’s like yelling at the cashier while the store owner takes your money and laughs all the way to the bank.

That’s how a leader gets bold enough to say, “Don’t grumble now; vote first, complain later.” Spoiler alert: you’ll still be grumbling. Just under the same tired regime.

Granny had it right: “A promise is a comfort to a fool.” Until Vincentians stop settling for sweet talk and start demanding substance, we’ll keep breathing recycled air in a country that desperately needs fresh wind.

Until then, keep choking.
