The national men’s football teams of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) and Cuba will play two friendly matches in Kingstown during the last quarter of this year.
Cuba’s Ambassador to SVG, Carlos Ernesto Rodríguez Etcheverry met this week with the President of the SVG Football Federation, Otashie Spring, to continue coordinating the organisation of the matches.
The matches are part of the joint efforts to promote cultural exchange and cooperation in the field of sports.
During the meeting, both sides highlighted the importance of such initiatives, which contribute to strengthening bilateral ties, fostering friendship between the peoples, and creating new opportunities for the development of young football talent.
Rodríguez Etcheverry reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to promoting sports as a bridge of brotherhood and understanding among nations.
Spring emphasised the enthusiasm of the local football community to welcome the Cuban national team on Vincentian soil.
“This sporting exchange adds to the broad agenda of collaboration between both countries, reaffirming their shared will to continue strengthening ties in various areas, including education, health, culture, and, in particular, sports,” the Cuban embassy in SVG said in a social media post.
The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of Venezuela to SVG, Francisco Pérez Santana and the manager of Conviasa in SVG, Taylor Darbeau, who will support the logistical efforts to ensure the success of the friendly matches.
