Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves has noted that the policy of his government is that the state-owned power company, VINLEC, is responsible for lighting sports facilities near its plants.
Speaking in Fitz Hughes recently, Gonsalves noted that he, as prime minister, is the nominal shareholder of VINLEC.
“Let me tell you this. There’s a decision of the shareholders meeting of VinLEC years ago that in whatever area we have a power plant and a facility has to be lighted, VINLEC is responsible for lighting it,” Gonsalves said.
“I’m going to tell the chief executive officer tonight self, me ah call um, me brethren, Vaughn Lewis, Dr. Lewis, and tell him that here in Fitz hughes, and I’m going to see if I could get two for the price of one; see if we could do Golden Grove, too,” the prime minister said.
Gonsalves was speaking about a week after East Kingstown MP, Fitz Bramble, an opposition MP, noted that besides the national sport facilities, all the other lighted playing fields are located in the constituencies represented by the prime minister and his son, East St. George MP, Camillo Gonsalves, who is also minister of Finance.
