An unusually large number of people walking inside the Financial Complex in Kingstown on Monday might have been responsible for the “tremors” that resulted in employees evacuating the building.
A public servant told iWitness News that a large number of people were on the upper floors of the five-storey building seeking vouchers for fridges, stoves and other appliances.
“Traffic up there was extremely heavy,” the source told iWitness News.
“Up there was filled with people getting things — a lot of people getting vouchers for appliances, etc., because giveaways are going on.”
The building houses the Office of the Prime Minister on the top floor as well as the ministries of finance and foreign affairs on other floors.
The workers evacuated the building around noon after complaining about feeling tremors.
The government has not commented on the development, but normal operations resumed at the building on Tuesday morning.
There were no reports of seismic activity in or near St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Monday.
iWitness News is not aware of any statement by the government about the development, and there were no posts on the social media pages of the relevant government agencies or departments.
The Financial Complex, which was commissioned in the early 1990s, is among the buildings constructed on lands reclaimed more than 50 years ago.

me done study black people, me know what to do, when to do, what to say, when to say and how to say. Abba Father, have mercy on us.
This must be a joke, Kenton!
This is more than just a building shaking story! Here is a failing government openly and in your face flouting all sense of good practice ,decency and stretching the bounds of legality, and as a people we shrug our collective shoulders and seem to say, ” nothing fuh dat! Is just politics! Gonsalves again showing he smart”! My people, even if the Gonsalves government has lost all sense of propriety and balance, must ” we, the people” follow suit? And then we shed crocodile tears about rising crime! Good lord! What a set of people we have become! So , Shake, building, Shake! Just maybe some sense of proper values may be shaken into us!
Total nonsense…persons in a building cause the building to shake, or was there some escalation of sand or….from nearby?
Too much traffic in a so called modern building caused the building to shake? This is dangerously laughable.
