The pharmacist charged with attempted murder over the shooting of a man in Calder was granted bail on Thursday.

Esworth Lewis was granted bail even as the virtual complainant, Omarie Pereira, of Biabou, remained in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH).

Lewis was denied bail when he first appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Monday.

However, he was granted bail on Thursday after Chief Magistrate Colin John heard the evidence of the investigator as to the VC’s situation.

The investigator, Corporal of Police 386 Kevron Jack, testified that he had visited Pereira at the MCMH on Thursday morning.

The officer said that Pereira was still in the ICU but was no longer “hooked up on the machine.

“He is responding. I had a conversation with him, also. He is breathing on his own,” Jack told the court.

The prosecutor, Inspector of Police, Renrick Cato, said that based on Jack’s evidence, the prosecution was no longer objecting to Lewis’ bail.

The court granted EC$30,000 bail with one surety and reporting conditions. The matter was adjourned to Oct. 30.

The prosecution is alleging that Lewis attempted to murder Pereira, a resident of Biabou, by shooting him twice in Calder on Oct. 10.

  1. When things like this happen people need to speak the truth, why does they block the road from Mr Lewis he was on his way going home ,Pereira and is friends shouting at Lewis telling him to fly over with his vichle ,they were the one who first started to beat Lewis and make attempts to get his firearm. They slammed him on the ground and Lewis firearm fell out but he upheld it and defends himself otherwise they were going to kill him with his own firearm
