Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves says artificial intelligence was used to determine that 9,000 people attended the ruling Unity Labour Party’s (ULP) “Amazing Grace” rally at Rabacca on Sunday.
He said it was impossible for the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) to have a similar number of people at its rally in Biabou the previous night.
“I want to tell you something about how the future is also now,” Gonsalves said and mentioned ChatGPT, an AI chatbot that can generate human-like text, code, images, and speech in response to user prompts.
“It’s now ChatGPT 5; artificial intelligence,” Gonsalves said.
“If you take a photograph, one or you splice them, two, go down, and ask ChatGPT, ‘How many people here?’ They could tell you.
“They just answered the question, which we posed. They can’t see under the tent, they can’t see outside because we ain’t put the photograph under the tent and outside. Inside here alone, over half an hour ago, maybe 40 minutes ago, and the crowd has grown more since then, ChatGPT say we ha’ 9,000 people right inside of here,” Gonsalves said.
iWitness News submitted to ChatGPT the above photo, which was published by East Kingstown Unity Youth on Facebook at 11:56 p.m. ChatGPT estimates the crowd in the photo to be between 1,800 and 3,000 people. iWitness News does not know when the photo was taken.
Gonsalves said the NDP was going about saying they had 9,000 people at their Biabou rally.
The rally was held on a playing field located next to a cemetery and the main road.
“Biabou park could hold 9,000 people?” Gonsalves said, adding, “Leh they go on fool theyself. And any NDP policeman who tell them they had 9,000 let he go on and fool himself, too.
“The only way you coulda ha’ 9,000 people at Biabou last night, you could not pass in the road at all, and you could have drive free in the road.
“And you woulda got people up in the cemetery with the dead. That’s the only way you go ha’ 9,000 people there. So leh they fool theyself. Leh they fool theyself. We do things scientifically.
“We asked ChatGPT how much, and the photographs went up here and down, and they gave us the answer”
The general election will be held on Nov. 27. Gonsalves is hoping to lead the ULP to a sixth consecutive five-year term in office.
