One more illegal firearm is off the streets of St. Vincent and the Grenadines as police arrested and charged Nicholas Charles, a 41-year-old construction worker of Campden Park, with possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

Officers apprehended Charles on Saturday during targeted enforcement operations, police said.

They are alleging that he was in possession of a 9mm semi-automatic pistol and 10 rounds of matching ammunition, both held without a licence issued under the Firearms Act.

Charles appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Monday, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

He was granted EC $10,000 bail, subject to strict conditions, including court approval for any travel outside the state, surrender of all travel documents, and restrictions at all ports of entry and exit.

As part of his bail conditions, he is required to report to the Questelles Police Station twice a week.

The matter has been adjourned to March 2.

“The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force continues focused operations aimed at removing illegal firearms from communities and disrupting criminal activity that threatens public safety. Members of the public are encouraged to remain alert and report suspicious activity to the police,” police said.
