The Georgetown Diabetics and Hypertensive group culminated a week of activities with a march and rally in the North Central Windward community earlier this month.
The week began with a church service at the Wesleyan Holiness Church at Mt Bentick, Bay Road in Georgetown.
Throughout the week, there were blood sugar and blood pressure screenings, a soup sale and community outreach and awareness on these diseases.
The main event on Thursday, a mini health fair, march and rally attracted participating groups in the district.
The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force Band preceded the march from the bridge at Caratal to the Chili Playing Field at 9:45 a.m., where different health booths were set up.
One of the major highlights was the exercise session.
Minister of Health Daniel Cummings delivered the feature address while public health nurse, Sister Glendareen Browne gave brief remarks.
Browne said that diabetes, commonly referred to as sugar, and hypertension, or high blood pressure, are two of the most common non-communicable health diseases in the district
Nutritionist and Community Health Development Officer for the district, Rosemary Muckette-Burke chaired the event.
The week’s events were centred on the theme “Better Health Begins With Me”.
