St. Vincent Electricity Services Limited (VINLEC) says it remains cooperative to any official enquiries from the relevant authorities into an alleged execution in Bequia on Sunday.
Police have said that they are investigating the death of Clias Deane, a 40-year-old labourer, of Sandy Bay, which occurred in the northern Grenadine island.
Police said that Deane, who lived at Cemetery Hill, Bequia, went to pick breadfruit from a tree near his residence around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday.
He was later observed motionless in the tree, and the police were notified.
Police officers found Deane in an upright position between two limbs of the tree.
A district medical officer later visited the scene and pronounced Deane dead.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted on his body as part of an ongoing investigation, police said.
In a statement on Monday, VINLEC said it was deeply saddened by reports of the tragic incident that resulted in Deane’s death.
“The Board of Directors, Management and Staff of VINLEC extend sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased,” the state-owned generator and distributor of electricity said.
“We are committed to the safety of the public and the communities we serve,” the company said, noting the ongoing investigation.
