Minister of Sports Kaschaka Cupid says that the government will further enhance the refurbished Edinboro Hardcourt by installing solar-powered lighting.
He said that the hardcourt, which was handed over to the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines by the High Commissioner of India to SVG, Subhash Prasad Gupta, on Monday, would be properly maintained for the benefit of the community.
The Edinboro Hardcourt is one of five community-based projects implemented under the Quick Impact Project Agreement between India and SVG.
The official handover of the Edinboro Hardcourt took place during a ceremony at the site on Monday, attended by various government officials, including MP for West Kingstown Daniel Cummings, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dwight Fitzgerald Bramble, and Coordinator of Sports Roxell John.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Cummings highlighted the positive impact the facility is expected to have on the lives of young people in the community.
He commended BRAGSA for its oversight of the project and underscored the importance of community stewardship in maintaining and enhancing the surrounding environment.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Foreign Investment and Diaspora Affairs extended “its sincere gratitude to the Government of the Republic of India for its support through the Quick Impact Projects initiative.
“The Ministry also thanks all stakeholders whose contributions helped bring the project to fruition and reaffirms Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ commitment to further strengthening the longstanding bilateral relationship between the two nations,” a press release said.
All street lighting should be solar powered. If there’s one thing we have a lot of, it’s sunshine, so why not use it to our advantage?
Incandescent light bulbs should also be banned in favour of LED lamps. The government must work harder on bringing down the cost of electricity.
Samo, I couldn’t agree more with your idea. It can reduce the cost of oil payed to operate these lights. Home owners should also be encouraged to use solar panels.
