Police have taken “several” people of interest into custody amidst an investigation into the death of Lida Lewis, an 84-year-old farmer, of Peruvian Vale.
Police said that they received a report around 12:50 p.m. on Thursday, requesting assistance in the Peruvian Vale area.
The officers who responded to the report checked the area, including areas where Lewis was known to frequent.
During those checks, police found Lewis unresponsive and she was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said that a post-mortem examination will be conducted on the body.
The police, in their usual terse statements, did not say what type of report they had received that triggered their response.
Police are asking anyone with information that might assist their investigation to contact 456-1810, 457-1211 or the nearest police station.
“The RSVGPF extends sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Lewis during this difficult time,” the statement said.
