Mathew Alexus, a 29-year-old mechanic, of Belmont, has been ordered to pay a fine of EC$1,700 within one month for cocaine possession.

In default, he will serve six months in prison for the 29 grammes of cocaine which he had in his possession with intent to supply in Arnos Vale on Sunday.

Alexus appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Tuesday, where he pleaded guilty to the charge.

The court also ordered the destruction of the seized cocaine.

In a statement on Tuesday, police said they remain unwavering in their commitment to disrupting the illegal drug trade and bringing offenders before the courts.

“Illegal drugs continue to fuel criminal activity, threaten public safety, and negatively impact families and communities throughout Saint Vincent and the Grenadines,” the police force said in a press statement.

“The Police Force encourages members of the public to continue partnering with law enforcement by reporting information relating to the possession, sale, or trafficking of illegal drugs,” the statement said.

“Information can be provided at the nearest police station or through any other established reporting channel. Together, we can build safer and healthier communities for all.”
