The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force will be under new leadership effective Monday, almost nine months after the New Democratic Party administration was voted into office.
However, the leadership arrangements will be temporary, at least in the first instance.
iWitness News was reliably informed that Commissioner of Police Enville Williams will proceed on some 150 days’ leave.
In his absence, Trevor “Buju” Bailey will act as commissioner of police, with Junior Simmons acting as the deputy commissioner of police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Frankie Joseph is on pre-retirement leave.
Brenton Smith, who was forced out of the constabulary by the COVID-19 vaccine mandate after 28 years of service and returned after the NDP’s election victory in November, has been appointed to act as an assistant commissioner of police.
While outside of the police force, Smith had served as general secretary of the NDP.
The changes at the helm of the police force come even as St. Vincent and the Grenadines has recorded 31 homicides this year.
If the trend continues, the country will surpass the 40 homicides it recorded in 2025.
Some observers have noted that the constant amid the escalating crime had been the leadership of the police force.
