One of the two men charged with the murder of St. Lucian Troy Casley, 34, in Lowmans Hill on June 23 has been jailed for firearm offences even as he awaits trial on his murder matter.
Jarell Phillips, 24, of Redemption Sharpes, appeared before the Serious Offences Court and pleaded guilty to firearm and ammunition possession charges.
He also pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle without a driver’s licence, driving an unlicensed vehicle, and driving a vehicle without a policy of insurance in force in respect of third-party risk.
Chief Magistrate Colin John sentenced Phillips to 42 months’ imprisonment for the unlicensed firearm, 18 months for the ammunition and three months each for the traffic offences.
The sentences will run concurrently.
Phillips and Delroy Harry, a 21-year-old labourer, of Lowmans Hill, have been charged with murder in connection with Casley’s death.
They have each also been charged with attempted murder in relation to the gunshot injuries that Shamel John, 22, of Lower Questelles, and Nashon Simmons, 33, of Campden Park, sustained in the incident in which Casley was killed.
The murder and attempted murder charges are still before the court.
