Jean Slater, the 72-year-old aunt of acting Director of the Agency for Public Information (API) Nadia Slater has died. Nadia’s cousin Keswert Slater, who was initially charged with attempted murder, has now been officially charged with murder.

Keswert, who worked as a delivery clerk prior to the incident, appeared at the Serious Offences Court before Chief Magistrate Colin John. He was charged that on September 25, 2026, with malice aforethought, he caused the death of Jean Slater of Clare Valley by an unlawful act, specifically by beating her about her body with an unknown object on May 5, 2026.

Keswert was not required to enter a plea to the indictable offence, nor was he granted bail.

After being informed that the funeral arrangements have been set for November 15, Chief Magistrate John adjourned the matter to November 17.

Keswert remains remanded in custody.
