KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – A group, calling themselves the “Concerned Citizens Movement”, say they will picket the Office of the Minister of National Security, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves at the Financial Complex, on Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“Our picket is geared at highlighting the recent upsurge of crime and violence in our society,” the group said in a media statement.

“As our society continues to degenerate before our eyes it is our responsibility to stand up and be heard on the issues that affect our families, our communities and us,” the statement said.

“Although I am sure that we all are privately horrified by what is happening to our beloved homeland, as a community we have been extremely silent,” the statement, signed by talk show host Junior Bacchus, further said.

“St. Vincent and the Grenadines is ours and if we continue to abdicate our social responsibility with our crime of silence we will be contributing to the problem. It is our hope that if we sing as one mass choir we can galvanize those in authority into action. Something must be done to make our roads, villages and communities safe,” according the statement.

The statement further said, “This is not a political movement.

“We are just a group of concerned citizens who believe that something must be done to make our communities safe.”

Ernesto Cooke, public relations officer of the opposition New Democratic Party, said on Monday that he was organizing a picket of the office of the Minister of national Security for tomorrow.
