KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Vincentians will Tuesday night be treated to a free concert on board a cruise ship here.
The Freewinds, which last visited this country in 2004, will be making a return call this today, Jan. 10, according to the Department of Culture.
The ship. with close to 300 passengers, will spend the day in Port Kingstown and will host a goodwill and friendship concert on board from 7 p.m. The concert will feature international pop star Aliona and the Freewinds Band.
The ship was originally scheduled to visit and hold a special concert on Dec. 23 as part of the Christmas festivities but cancelled due to adverse sailing conditions, which affected docking in Kingstown.
During its earlier visits, the Freewinds hosted a number of concerts and movie nights on board the ship for the public.
The ship’s band also played a number of concerts at several secondary schools across the country and made appearances at SVG Blues Fest.
Since its departure, the ship has maintained contact with this country by making available “The Way to Happiness” DVDs, booklets, teacher manuals and posters to the Department of Culture. These have been distributed to various schools, youth and community groups.
Government officials are hoping that the Freewinds will return with more regular calls, the Department said
